In addition to residential supports, Citizen Care, Inc. offers a variety of non-residential services through four community based programs and supported work crews at area businesses.
Center For Community Supports
The CSS (Center For Community Supports) provides individualized supports to people who
have a wide range of abilities, interests, and needs. In addition to supporting people in
developing and refining skills and competencies related to personal management/independence,
health and safety, communication and socialization, activities are designed to
promote the development of work-related skills for anyone interested in pursuing vocational
interests. Special events, holiday celebrations and a variety of supervised community-based
activities address each person?s current interests, provide exposure to new and different
recreational and leisure activities and facilitate the development of interpersonal relationships.
Center For Creative Opportunities
Through the CCO (Center for Creative Opportunities), people participate in an array of activities
directed toward personal independence including but not limited to activities of daily living,
socialization, recreation / leisure, special events, community outings and paid work
opportunities. People also have the opportunity to develop friendships and experience a
connection to the community while learning new skills, developing new interests and pursuing
personal goals. The CCO promotes empowerment, discovery and self-confidence in the people receiving services.
Senior Citizen Center
The SCC (Senior Citizen Center), which is designed for the older person who is of retirement age, makes
available to each participant the opportunity to develop hobbies, pursue leisure interests and
enjoy interpersonal relationships within a relaxing environment.
The program is modeled as closely as possible to ?generic? senior citizen centers, with an emphasis on choice. Many senior centers offer simultaneous activities from which one can choose and the SCC is structured in much the same way ? offering individual choices throughout the day as opposed to a single activity approach to the day. Activity areas include orientation/socialization, physical fitness, nutrition, communication, activities of daily living and special events. In addition, every effort is made to involve people in activities within the local community. Such a multi-dimensional activity model enhances each senior citizen?s opportunities to participate in and enjoy the many experiences life has to offer in an environment that promotes personal choice, optimal satisfaction, and the realization of hopes and dreams.
Training & Outsourcing Center
Through the TOC (Training and Outsourcing Center), people are provided vocational evaluation,
job training and work opportunities both on and off site. Through a comprehensive and
individualized assessment of work skills, interests and work-related behaviors, targeted
job training leads to paid work opportunities at the center as regulated by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The center is tailored to provide support to people who are not yet ready for competitive employment but are working to improve their skills and maximize their level of work performance through paid contract work, with the anticipated outcome of integrated employment in the community. Contract work, which is obtained from area businesses and industries, includes a variety of packaging, mailing and assembly services as well as binding and laminating. This diversity of work provides exposure to a wide variety of jobs and work situations within an environment that promotes vocational success. The TOC enjoys a reciprocal relationship with many area businesses, as outsourcing enables companies to be more productive by shipping a portion of their work to the workshop, which provides the participants at the center with job exposure, the opportunity to be compensated for working and a sense of accomplishment.
Supported Work Crews
Members of work crews are afforded the opportunity to earn a paycheck based on an hourly or piece rate for work completed, with such rates determined by the results of individualized time studies. All work is completed with the support of Job Coaches who assist individuals in developing job-specific skills. Such efforts are directed toward increased responsibilities and/or competitive employment for those people who demonstrate the requisite skills.
